The Crisis Continues for Women in Venezuela

A discussion with women activists from Venezuela

Our partner organization, CEPAZ will have a discussion about the work and situation of women in Venezuela. Our speakers, Natasha Saturno ( Accion Solidaria - women with HIV), Quiteria Franco ( Union Afirmativa -LGBTI women) and Luisa Tariba ( Funcamama - women with cancer) are coming to New York! This event will be hybrid, meaning it will be located at the Kota Nest in person and on Zoom.

Natasha Saturno Siñovsky
Lawyer graduated from the Central University of Venezuela (UCV), committed Human Rights Defender with 6 years of experience in the area, especially in the right to health and other economic, social and cultural rights. Currently working as Coordinator of the Legal Department in Acción Solidaria and candidate for the title of specialist in human rights at the UCV.

About Acción Solidaria

Acción Solidaria is a non-governmental organization (NGO) founded in 1995, whose mission has been to reduce the social impact of the HIV epidemic, through comprenhensive responses in the areas of prevention, care and public advocacy. However, following the Complex Emergency established in Venezuela since 2015, in 2016 the organization opened two neg programs: the first one is for Humanitarian Aid, where medicines, food and medical supplies are brought in adn distributed through our center which benefits 1.600 people monthly (on average) of which 65% are women.

The second program is a Legal Department for Human Rights, which has obtained 3 precautionary measures of the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) for more than 50 people with HIV and hemophilia, and provides free legal advice to people with HIV.

Quiteria Franco

Quiteria Franco is a Human Rights defender. She is the General Coordinator at Union Afirmativa. She is a member of the Civil Society Advisory Group at UN-Women-Latin America & the Caribbean since 2018.

Her work includes denouncing the situation of women and LGBTI people in Venezuela both nationally and internationally at the ICHR and UN. She has written and turned in at least 10 reports on the situation of LGBTI people in Venezuela since 2015. 

Luisa Rodríguez

Luisa Rodríguez is a human rights activist with 20 years of work in the protection and defense of Venezuelan women with breast cancer. Founder and President of Funcamama.
