Women Run Harlem! With Melba Wilson

On June 6th, Kota started our new series - Women Run Harlem! - highlighting and celebrating the women who contribute to the vibrancy of Harlem. Our first honoree is Melba Wilson, restaurateur of the iconic Melba's Restaurant, which attracts locals, visitors, and celebrities to enjoy American Southern Comfort food and Melba’s signature Gospel Sunday Brunch. Melba has expanded her culinary reach and influence with countless television appearances, a new cookbook, and her service as president of the New York City Hospitality Alliance. At Kota, she dished about her long and winding journey to achieve success. Melba credits her Harlem community with helping her through long hours as she balanced opening a restaurant while raising her son.

Special thanks to our own community for helping us to put this event together: Miss Mack Enterprises and DonBites for the impeccable catering; Valio for the delicious cheese donations; Rabbi Joseph Potasnik of the New York Board of Rabbis for the wine donation; and of course all our volunteers!

Consider supporting Kota’s mission so that we can continue to be a beacon and safe place where women can meet, learn together, and work together. As a non-profit organization, any donations are greatly appreciated and tax deductible. Suggested donations per event are $25. You may donate here

Thank you again for your support and interest in Kota’s work so that, together, we can bring about a more equitable world where women are given equal opportunities to achieve their unlimited potential.

Love,

The Kota Alliance staff
